To accurately measure a window replacement, check that the existing window frame is square. This means that all four corners of the window frame are 90-degrees. Installing a window in a frame that is not squared out at 90-degree angles may impair the windows ability to open and close. Then measure the width of the window from jamb to jamb at the bottom, middle, and top. Then measure the height of the window from jamb to jamb at the left, middle, and right. When ordering your new window, reference the smallest of the three measurements for width and for height to ensure a proper fit. Using the smallest measurements refers to a situation in which the window may have shifted or is not square. In this case, one side may appear to have a larger measurement than the other side. Using the larger measurement may result in the window not fitting all together.
